Everyone contributed on the highest-scoring night ever for a team in the Kohl Center.
By Peter Cameron, BADGER STRIPES
The Badgers scored a Kohl Center record 105 points in their home opener against Arkansas State on Monday, winning 105-76.
The previous record had been held by the Kansas Jayhawks when they defeated the Oregon Ducks 104-86 in an Elite Eight game at the Kohl Center in 2002 (and I was there).
Tonight, when many of the starters struggled with foul trouble, Chucky Hepburn led the Badgers in both points (20) and minutes played (30). He also committed no fouls.
Sophomore transfer AJ Storr scored nine points in the first five minutes and finished with 15.
Max Klesmit scored 14 points on a perfect shooting night — 5-5 from the floor including one three, and 3-3 from the free throw line — in just 19 minutes of play.
True freshmen John Blackwell and Nolan Winter showed great promise, playing lots because of the foul trouble of the starters. Blackwell scored 12 points, drawing four fouls and shooting 5-7 from the free throw line as he aggressively attacked the basket. Winter was strong on the boards, pulling down a team high 7 in only 15 minutes of play.
Next up is #9 ranked Tennessee on Friday night in Madison. Could be a great one.
